The monument of Alexander the Great in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece

The monument of the great Greek Alexander III is prominently located on the New Waterfront of Thessaloniki, right before the beautiful thematic parks that stretch along its length.
The impressive monument, large in scale, depicts Alexander on horseback riding his steed, which he himself named Bucephalus. It stands directly in front of the sea, in a prominent location elevated several meters above the ground
On the waterfront of Thessaloniki, near the White Tower, stands the statue of Alexander the Great, King of the Macedonians. He is depicted riding Bucephalus, the warhorse that accompanied the Macedonian commander on his campaigns for 20 years. The statue was erected in 1973, funded by donation committees, and was inaugurated in 1974.
The statue is the work of sculptor Evangelos Moustakas, who crafted it in his workshop in Pallini. The bronze statue was cast at the "Renzo Michelucci" foundries in Pistoia, Italy. The statue itself is 6 meters tall and weighs 4 tons, while the total height, including the pedestal, reaches 11 meters.
The pedestal on which the bronze statue stands is clad in dark-colored marble from Melissochori. The surrounding area is also paved with white marble from Veria, making the location particularly attractive to individuals engaged in skateboarding.
On the western side of the monumental complex, there is a wall featuring a bronze relief depicting the Battle of Issus. During this battle, Alexander the Great drove Darius III, King of Persia, from the battlefield. The artistic depiction consists of 45 figures, with Alexander leading Macedonian sarissa-bearing hoplites and Darius III commanding the Persian forces.
The complex also includes two arrays of shields and sarissas. The western array consists of 5 shields and sarissas, while the northern array features 3 shields and sarissas. These arrays symbolize the ordinary Macedonian soldiers who participated in Alexander the Great's campaign. The total dimensions of the complex are 23 x 30 meters.
