(Στη νεότερη πόλη, στην πλατεία Ελευθερίας, βρίσκεται ο ναός του Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου. Οικοδομήθηκε την περίοδο 1924/1925-1929 κατά μίμηση, και αποτελώντας μία σύγχρονη μορφολογική απόδοση, του κοινοβιακού ναού των Ιπποτών που βρισκόταν στο δυτικό οχυρωμένο τμήμα του Κολλάκιου και καταστράφηκε ολοσχερώς έπειτα από έκρηξη πυρίτιδας το 1856.
Ο νέος ναός, αφιερωμένος επίσης στον Άγιο Ιωάννη, βασίστηκε στα σχέδια των Bernard Eugène Antoin Rottiers του 1828 και Eugène Flandin του 1853. Την επίβλεψη της κατασκευής ανέλαβε ο Ιταλός αρχιτέκτονας Florestano di Fausto. Οικοδομήθηκε στο αρχιτεκτονικό τύπο της τρίκλιτης ξυλόστεγης βασιλικής με υπερυψωμένο το κεντρικό κλίτος και τριμερές ιερό, με εντυπωσιακά ανοίγματα στις όψεις που προσιδιάζουν με αντίστοιχα σε δυτικούς ναούς.
Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos
The Church of Annunciation of Virgin in Rhodes Town, Dodecanese: The Church of the Annunciation of Virgin is the most famous church in Rhodes Town. Located north of Mandraki, the old port of the town, this church was constructed in the 1920s, during the Italian occupation of the island. The design was based on the architectural design of the Medieval Gothic Church of Saint John, adjacent to the Palace of Grand Master in Rhodes Old Town.
Originally, this church was Catholic and served the Italian Catholic community till 1948, when Rhodes and the other Dodecanese islands were reunified with mainland Greece. This year, the church was turned into a Greek Orthodox Church and in fact, it was declared the Cathedral of Rhodes. Along with the necessary decorative reformations to turn a Catholic church into an Orthodox, interesting frescoes were also painted in the interior by the renowned Greek painter, Fotis Kontoglou.
The exterior design of the church has Gothic-style doors and windows, arches and high ceilings. A tall bell tower with a clock is located at the side entrance of the church, facing the harbor. The Church of the Annunciation celebrated on March 25th with a large religious festival.
Cathédrale d'Eros de l'Annonciation de la Théotokos
(Dans la ville la plus récente, sur la place Eleftheria, se trouve l'église de l'Annonciation de la Vierge Marie. Elle a été construite dans la période 1924/1925-1929 à l'imitation du temple synovien des Chevaliers et en est une représentation morphologique moderne. qui était situé dans la partie fortifiée ouest de Kollaki et a été complètement détruit après une explosion de poudre à canon en 1856.
La nouvelle église, également dédiée à Saint-Jean, s'inspire des plans de Bernard Eugène Antoin Rottiers de 1828 et d'Eugène Flandin de 1853. La construction fut supervisée par l'architecte italien Florestano di Fausto. Elle a été construite selon le type architectural de la basilique à trois nefs, couverte en bois, avec une nef centrale surélevée et un sanctuaire en trois parties, avec des ouvertures impressionnantes sur les façades, caractéristiques des temples occidentaux.
